UN Secretariat
Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence
Individual Contractor - Systematization and Analysis of CRSV Cases - Colombia
Organizational Context
The UN Secretariat's Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict established the Team of Experts on the Rule of Law and Sexual Violence in Conflict. This team, created by Security Council resolution 1888, assists national authorities in strengthening accountability for conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) and supports judicial systems through workshops.
Job Purpose
This role provides crucial technical support to the Special Jurisdiction for Peace (SJP) in Colombia, focusing on organizing and structuring large volumes of documentary evidence related to gender-based violence (GBV) and conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV) cases. The purpose is to build upon previous progress in systematizing this evidence, addressing complexities, and ensuring a comprehensive analytical package is delivered. This package, including verified datasets, tables, pattern summaries, and analytical notes, will directly support the finalization of the Auto de Determinación de Hechos y Conductas, thereby strengthening accountability mechanisms for these serious crimes.
Responsibilities
The consultant will systematically review, verify, and consolidate case information from various sources, including newly identified records within the SJP database. This involves refining and applying agreed coding and classification systems for consistency and alignment with the analytical framework. In-depth data verification, cross-referencing, and resolution of inconsistencies are key duties. The role includes maintaining a change log, supporting the integration of geospatial and temporal data for pattern analysis, and consolidating data into a validated, analysis-ready dataset. Additionally, the consultant will flag complex cases or gaps for review and produce preliminary analytical outputs, such as aggregated figures and trends, to inform drafting processes. Regular progress updates and participation in technical discussions and meetings are also required.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2-3 years of experience is required in human rights documentation, legal research, or transitional justice. Familiarity with database management, documentation review, or information systematization is necessary. Proficiency in Excel or other database software is also required.
Skills
Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, ability to work in a team environment, proficiency in Excel or database software, database management, documentation review, information systematization, knowledge of gender-based and sexual violence documentation (desirable), fluency in Spanish and another UN official language.
