Consumer Information Internship
Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the global environmental authority. Its Industry and Economy Division promotes sustainable practices. The 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (10YFP) Secretariat, hosting the One Planet network, aims to accelerate the global shift towards sustainable consumption and production. The Consumer Information Area of Excellence within this secretariat focuses on guiding consumer decision-making for long-term sustainability.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the Consumer Information Area of Excellence in accelerating the transition to sustainable consumption and production policies and practices. The role will increase the availability of reliable information to guide consumers, thereby influencing behavioral change among producers and consumers towards long-term sustainability. This contributes to reducing environmental pressure while fostering social and economic development, aligning with Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. The intern will support key workstreams focused on product green claims, digital product information systems, and ecolabels and certification schemes, contributing to UNEP's mandate.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the coordination desk of the Consumer Information Programme and its three main workstreams: strengthening product green claims (Retail4Impact), advancing Digital Product Information Systems (D4CE), and supporting ecolabels and certification schemes (EcoAdvance). Key duties include assisting with project implementation, research, and data collection on consumer information and product sustainability. The role involves supporting daily coordination activities, organizing events, and contributing to outreach efforts. Communication support includes assisting with presentations, articles, and social media. The intern will also help update website content, develop newsletters, map relevant organizations, and maintain a stakeholder database. Additionally, support will be provided for SDG 12.1 indicator progress reporting and activities within the Skills & Lifestyle Area of Excellence, focusing on sustainable tourism and communications.
Work Experience
No specific work experience is required for this internship. However, candidates should possess good research skills and the ability to compile data using standard software like Excel. Experience or willingness to develop skills in producing basic infographics and using presentation software (PPT, Canva) is beneficial.
