Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) hosts the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species (CMS) Office in Abu Dhabi. This office coordinates the implementation of global conservation instruments for dugongs and migratory birds of prey. The internship role supports the CMS Office's data and information management efforts.
Job Purpose
This internship provides hands-on experience in international environmental cooperation, focusing on data management, reporting, and digital tools. The intern will support the CMS Office in Abu Dhabi by contributing to the management, organization, and analysis of programme data related to the Dugong and Raptors MOUs and global initiatives. This role is crucial for enhancing data-driven insights to support programme activities and decision-making, ensuring effective conservation efforts for migratory species and their habitats.
Responsibilities
The intern will assist in compiling, organizing, and maintaining datasets related to CMS activities, species, and agreements. Responsibilities include supporting the structuring and management of internal information systems and repositories, and contributing to the improvement of data organization practices. The role also involves assisting in cleaning, validating, and preparing datasets for analysis, and supporting the development of basic data visualizations and reporting outputs. Furthermore, the intern will help manage and update internal knowledge platforms, ensure proper categorization and accessibility of documents, and assist in improving information-sharing practices within the Secretariat. Ad hoc tasks as requested by the supervisor are also part of the role.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to data management, information management, or environmental policy is necessary. Applicants must be students in their final year of a degree program or have completed a degree.
Skills
Proficiency in standard computer software and digital tools for data handling and analysis. Demonstrated ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Keen interest in data management, reporting, and information systems within an international context. A commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter.
