Legal Data Analyst

Organizational Context

This position is within the Office of Administration of Justice, specifically the Registry of the United Nations Appeals Tribunal (UNAT) in New York. The UNAT hears appeals from staff members against judgments from first-instance tribunals. The role reports to the UNAT Registrar and Principal Registrar.

Job Purpose

The Legal Data Analyst will be responsible for updating and analyzing historical case data from 2009-2019 for the Appeals Tribunal caseload dashboard. This involves reviewing data within the court case management system, performing audits to identify and correct inaccuracies such as missing details, duplicates, and inconsistencies. The role will also assist in manipulating and translating this data for input into PowerBI, contributing to the effective presentation and accessibility of tribunal caseload information.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities include reviewing historical appeals data within the court case management system and conducting data audits for presentation purposes. This involves identifying and rectifying data deficiencies, such as lack of detail, duplicate entries, and inconsistencies, to improve the accuracy and completeness of case records. Additionally, the role will support the manipulation and translation of data for integration into PowerBI, specifically for the Appeals Tribunal caseload dashboard, ensuring the data is suitable for visualization and analysis.

Work Experience

At least one year of experience in database or data analytics is required. Experience with data visualization tools like PowerBI is desirable. Experience in administrative or civil litigation support is also desirable. Familiarity with programming languages such as Python or R for data cleansing and automation is a plus.
