Organizational Context
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, is seeking an intern to support activities related to combating trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants. This role operates within the TIPSOM Unit, contributing to project planning, implementation, monitoring, research, data analysis, and communications.
Job Purpose
The internship aims to provide practical experience in project management and international crime prevention within the UNODC framework. The intern will support the Associate Programme Officer in executing project activities, ensuring timely implementation, and contributing to monitoring and evaluation efforts. This role is crucial for gathering information, strengthening partner networks, and providing administrative support for anti-trafficking initiatives, including workshops and training seminars. The position offers an opportunity to gain exposure to the UN's operational work in addressing complex global issues and to develop professional skills in a multicultural environment.
Responsibilities
The intern will assist in the preparation and revision of detailed work plans for project implementation, ensuring activities align with project objectives and deadlines. They will actively contribute to the daily execution of project tasks and participate in field visits for monitoring purposes. Responsibilities include assisting in the regular evaluation of activity progress, documenting project materials, and collecting relevant information from various sources. The intern will also help strengthen partner networks, manage correspondence and document filing, and provide guidance to implementing partners on project execution and financial documentation. Furthermore, they will offer administrative support for all anti-trafficking activities, including workshops and training seminars, and perform other compatible duties as assigned.
Work Experience
No specific work experience is explicitly required for this internship. However, a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to its Charter are essential. The ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is also important.
Skills
Proficiency in standard office software (MS Word, PowerPoint, Teams). Ability to draft news articles and social media posts is desirable. Experience in designing surveys and polls is also desirable. Fluency in oral and written English and French is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
