Organizational Context
The UN Secretariat's Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Global Mechanism (GM) supports countries in mobilizing financial and technical resources to address desertification, land degradation, and drought. The GM translates UNCCD commitments into action through innovative finance, resource mobilization, and strategic partnerships, focusing on developing investable projects and engaging the private sector.
Job Purpose
This consultancy provides specialized senior-level expertise to the UNCCD Global Mechanism (GM) in preparation for COP17. The role's purpose is to validate and finalize technical products, prepare and facilitate high-level events, and engage key stakeholders from government, private sector, and finance. The objective is to produce high-quality deliverables that enhance the GM's knowledge base, partnerships, and resource mobilization capacity, showcasing leadership in innovative finance, project pipeline development, and private sector engagement for sustainable land management.
Responsibilities
Senior Consultants will support the Global Mechanism (GM) in delivering its strategic mandate leading up to COP17. Key duties include contributing to innovative finance and investment facilitation, developing private sector engagement and partnerships, and building a pipeline of investable projects. Consultants will also prepare technical products, events, and advocacy materials for COP17, and conduct stakeholder engagement and capacity building with governments, development partners, MDBs, and the private sector. Specific deliverables will be agreed upon, potentially including technical papers, business cases, investment frameworks, event facilitation, outreach activities, and contributions to resource mobilization and partnership strategies.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of progressive experience in fields such as land degradation, drought resilience, sustainable land management, innovative finance, resource mobilization, or private sector engagement in international development is required. Candidates must demonstrate an understanding of the UNCCD mandate and stakeholders, and the ability to work independently at a senior level.
