Organizational Context
The International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM) in Geneva, Switzerland, is seeking a Security Information Analyst Intern. This role supports the Mechanism's understanding of the evolving security environment impacting personnel and cooperating individuals. The intern will work within the Operational Support Section and Security Coordination Office, contributing to vital security assessments.
Job Purpose
The Security Information Analyst Intern will support the IIIM's mission by enhancing its awareness of security dynamics relevant to its operations in Syria and surrounding areas. The role involves contributing to the monitoring, review, and maintenance of Security Threat and Risk Assessments (STRA), ensuring they accurately reflect current conditions. This supports the safety and security of Mechanism personnel and those cooperating with the Mechanism, by providing timely and relevant analytical insights into emerging risks and trends. The intern will assist in research, reporting, and the preparation of briefing materials, playing a key part in the Mechanism's operational security framework.
Responsibilities
Conduct targeted open-source research and analytical assessments on security developments and emerging risks. Monitor and maintain situational awareness of political, security, economic, social, and technological factors affecting personnel and cooperating individuals. Research, compile, and summarize information on the evolving security environment in Syria and relevant operational contexts. Support the preparation, review, and updating of Security Threat and Risk Assessments (STRA). Assist in identifying trends, patterns, and potential security implications through analytical reporting. Prepare analytical summaries, briefing materials, and presentations for internal use. Contribute to periodic updates and presentations on STRA findings. Ensure confidentiality and secure handling of accessed information. Complete assigned tasks accurately and within deadlines. Work effectively independently and collaboratively in a multicultural team.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a strong academic background in a relevant field is necessary. Desirable experience includes familiarity with open-source research methodologies and the ability to synthesize complex information into concise analytical products.
