Political Affairs and Partnerships Intern
Organizational Context
The Political Affairs and Partnerships Intern will be based in the Office of the Director-General, within the Political Affairs and Partnerships Section at the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) in Switzerland. This is an unpaid, full-time internship expected to last between 3 to 6 months, commencing in August 2026.
Job Purpose
This internship provides a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience in international affairs and partnerships within a United Nations setting. The intern will support the Political Affairs and Partnerships Section by conducting research, preparing background materials, and assisting with communication efforts for senior officials. The role contributes to the Section's mandate of monitoring international developments, engaging with Geneva-based international organizations, and supporting diplomatic engagements. This experience is designed to enhance the intern's understanding of multilateral diplomacy and the UN's operational framework, while developing essential research, analytical, and communication skills.
Responsibilities
Conduct research and draft country profiles, briefing notes, and background materials for high-level meetings. Monitor and analyze current international affairs and topical issues, preparing relevant papers and notes. Track developments within UN entities and Geneva-based organizations, as well as Swiss academic and research institutions. Attend and summarize meetings of UN and other entities. Draft speeches, talking points, and communication materials for senior officials. Support the planning and organization of seminars and workshops with external partners. Draft routine correspondence and maintain section databases and reference materials. Assist with other ad hoc tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a strong academic background in a relevant field is necessary. Familiarity with standard software applications, particularly MS Word and MS Teams, is expected. The ability to draft communication materials is considered desirable.
