Its Ecosystems Division supports countries in managing terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems. The Source to Sea Pollution Unit specifically addresses land-based pollution, including plastic pollution, contributing to SDGs 6 and 14.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to support the successful implementation of work under the Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine Environment from Land-Based Activities (GPML), focusing on the efficiency, enhancement, and user experience of the Global Plastics Hub. The role will contribute to accelerating a global circular plastic economy by facilitating the development of harmonized methodologies and tools for assessing national baselines and guiding stakeholders in developing systemic, tailored actions. The consultant will engage with stakeholders, including through the GPML and Global Plastics Hub, to address plastic pollution and its impacts, aligning with UNEP's Medium-Term Strategy and relevant resolutions.
Responsibilities
The consultant will be responsible for enhancing the Global Plastics Hub by supporting its optimization and migration to the UNEP Azure system, including technical clearance processes and managing the migration. This involves refactoring existing content, identifying scope for architecture optimization, and providing technical inputs for legal agreements. The role includes coordinating and supporting the migration, ensuring timely issue resolution, and performing quality assurance on system features and platform updates. Content management, updating user guides, and supporting GPML communications and steering committee activities are also key duties. Additionally, the consultant will support resource mobilization by contributing to the Hub's 3-year plan, preparing funding proposals, and assisting in stakeholder consultations to identify user needs and engagement opportunities.
Work Experience
A minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience in IT management, computer science, website development and/or management, and data analytics is required. Experience in environmental data analytics and knowledge management, particularly concerning plastic pollution issues, is desirable.
