The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the UN system's focal point for coordinating disaster reduction efforts. This role supports UNDRR's global communications mission by enhancing its digital presence.
Job Purpose
This role is pivotal in shaping UNDRR's digital presence by improving the operational reliability, multilingual quality, editorial capability, and AI-readiness of its multi-domain Drupal web platform. The objective is to ensure the platform effectively supports UNDRR's global disaster risk reduction communications. The position involves bridging creative concepts with functional implementation, collaborating with teams to evolve a world-class digital platform, and maximizing the impact of UNDRR's web presences through component development and integration with the Gutenberg web editor. The role also explores connecting LLMs with the Drupal content editing process.
Responsibilities
Develop and refine Drupal components, ensuring the Mangrove component is updated with rich features and integrates with the UNDRR Gutenberg web editor. Guide the sustainability of the front-end ecosystem by maintaining code dependencies, updating documentation, and supporting tooling for visual regression. Ensure the Drupal platform is clear, performant, and impactful, particularly for initiatives like World Tsunami Awareness Day. Explore and potentially integrate LLM or AI services with the Drupal content editing process. Collaborate remotely with colleagues in Geneva and Bangkok using communication tools like Teams.
Work Experience
A minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in back-end web development is required. Extensive experience with Drupal 10 or 11 (module development, architecture, configuration management, multi-domain) is essential. Experience with PHP, Composer, and Drupal's API-first/headless patterns is also required.
