Organizational Context

This position is situated within the OHCHR Syria Country Office in Damascus. The incumbent reports administratively to the Representative of the OHCHR Syria Country Office, playing a key role in supporting the office's operations and personnel.

Job Purpose

The Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and cargo, including general and specialized hazardous goods. This role involves making regular deliveries between UN offices and other institutions, assisting with minor purchases and customs clearance, and providing airport meet-and-greet services. The Driver also ensures the daily maintenance and cleanliness of assigned vehicles, accurately logs trip details, and handles accident procedures according to regulations. Additionally, the position may involve data collection and reporting support, visualization assistance, and staying updated on security advisories to ensure operational safety and compliance.

Responsibilities

Safely operate vehicles for transporting personnel and cargo, including general and specialized hazardous goods. Conduct regular deliveries of parcels and documents between UN offices and external institutions such as ministries and embassies. Perform minor purchases and collect urgent items from local suppliers, and manage customs clearance for goods. Meet official personnel at the airport and assist with immigration and customs formalities. Maintain assigned vehicles through daily checks, minor repairs, and ensuring cleanliness. Accurately log official trips, mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance records. Adhere to all rules and regulations in case of vehicle accidents. Apply good judgment in all assignments. Provide support in collecting and analyzing data, preparing reports, and updating information materials. Ensure compliance with security protocols and advisories.

Work Experience

A minimum of two years of driving experience with a safe driving record is required. Experience operating various vehicle types is essential. Experience with UN entities or international organizations is desirable.
