The Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) at the UN Secretariat in New York is leading digital transformation through secure, reliable technology. This role sits within the Operations Unit of the Broadcast and Conference Support Section, responsible for designing and operating conference and broadcast solutions, including interpretation systems, media transmission, and collaboration platforms.
Job Purpose
The Broadcast and Conference Operations Technician provides essential technical support for the installation, repair, and maintenance of a wide range of audio, video, conference, and network equipment at UN Headquarters. This includes Congress Microphone and Interpretation systems, videoconferencing, broadcast media, and related hardware/software. The role ensures the smooth operation of these systems for meetings and conferences, supports UN Agencies' facilities, and contributes to effective communication and collaboration through reliable technology solutions. The technician also assists with system testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining equipment inventory.
Responsibilities
Provide technical support for the installation, repair, and maintenance of broadcast audio, video, conference, and network appliances, including interpretation systems, radio, television, and internet transmission. Install and repair electronic voting systems, projection equipment, and videoconferencing units. Perform hardware and software troubleshooting for UN Headquarters and peacekeeping missions. Conduct periodic system testing and maintenance of broadcast and conference equipment. Ensure availability of services and personnel for scheduled meetings. Support UN Agencies' radio, audio, television, and telecommunication facilities. Monitor voting processes and assist with data analysis, presentations, and reports. Maintain equipment inventory and produce activity reports. Assist in large projects by analyzing user requests, preparing layouts, and supervising installations. Prepare engineering drawings and assist in workflow analysis for operational optimization.
Work Experience
Seven years of experience in broadcast and conference operations or a related field is required. At least five years of experience as a broadcast and conference operations or production maintenance technician, including diagnosing and repairing broadcast equipment, is necessary. Experience with ST2110 transport, high voltage safety, and data analytics is desirable.
Skills
• Professionalism: Knowledge of broadcast equipment, operations, networks, HD digital TV systems, audio/video/IP networks, file-based media systems, RF distribution, and cable TV. Ability to read schematics, use bench maintenance equipment, diagnose/repair equipment, and perform system testing. Data analysis skills. • Communication: Clear and effective speaking and writing.
