Organizational Context
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Housing and Land Management Unit seeks an individual contractor to support the "Forum of Mayors" project. This role is based in Geneva and focuses on strengthening capacities of UNECE member states in sustainable urban development, housing, and land management.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to provide essential support to the "Forum of Mayors" project, contributing to sustainable urban development initiatives within UNECE member states. The contractor will assist the secretariat in organizing the 6th Forum of Mayors in 2026, including managing invitations, stakeholder liaison, and event preparations. Key contributions involve updating the project's online platform, supporting communication efforts through various media, and assisting with logistical arrangements. This role directly supports the project's objective of enhancing the capabilities of local authorities in urban planning and management, ensuring the successful execution of the Forum and its related activities.
Responsibilities
The individual contractor will support the "Forum of Mayors" project by drafting and sending invitations to Mayors for the 2026 Forum and compiling a list of speakers and participants. Responsibilities include liaising with UN member states and external partners. The contractor will assist in rebuilding, maintaining, and updating the online platform content for the Forum of Mayors. Additionally, they will help prepare for and organize meetings of the Forum of Mayors Bureau and pre-Forum sessions. Communication support involves drafting press releases, newsletters, social media posts, articles, and website content, as well as developing interactive videos and PowerPoint presentations. Logistical support for the Forum and its side events is also required.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in Economic Affairs or a related area is required. Experience in organizing events and managing websites is considered desirable for this position.
Skills
Event organization, website management, communication (drafting press releases, newsletters, social media content, articles), content creation (videos, presentations), stakeholder liaison, logistical support, and proficiency in English.
