The UN Secretariat's Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) supports the Global Investors for Sustainable Development (GISD) Alliance. Launched in 2019, the GISD Alliance mobilizes private finance for SDGs. This role supports the GISD Alliance's expanded work programme in Kenya, focusing on country-level mobilization of private finance and investment.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to provide substantive support to the GISD Alliance's work programme in Kenya, focusing on mobilizing private finance and investment for sustainable development. The role involves research, stakeholder engagement, and report preparation to advance FFD4 outcomes and the Business Communiqué action areas. Key activities include supporting a country-led financing platform, facilitating investment opportunities, and convening multi-stakeholder policy dialogues. The ultimate goal is to enhance the alignment of policies, public finance, and private investment with national development priorities in Kenya, thereby unlocking private capital for sustainable development.
Responsibilities
The consultant will conduct desk research on mobilizing private finance and investments for sustainable development in Kenya, focusing on blended finance, innovative instruments, and SME access to finance. Responsibilities include providing substantive support for convening a multi-stakeholder roundtable, preparing its agenda, participant list, and summary. The role also involves organizing and participating in other stakeholder meetings, preparing summaries, and contributing to the identification of investment opportunities. The consultant will prepare draft and final reports with policy recommendations and provide monthly progress reports on the work programme implementation.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in sustainable development, mobilizing private finance and investment mechanisms, programme management, and qualitative analysis is required, with a focus on Africa. Experience with UN, International Organizations, Multilateral Development Banks, or Development Finance Institutions is advantageous. Knowledge of blended finance, innovative debt/equity instruments, and sustainable finance is also beneficial.
Skills
Excellent drafting skills and strong coordination skills are required. Experience in qualitative analysis and multi-stakeholder engagement is necessary. Familiarity with sustainable development, private finance mobilization, programme management, blended finance, and innovative financing instruments is beneficial.
