Organizational Context
The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), through its Special Projects and Innovation Branch, offers six internship opportunities in Budapest, Hungary. These internships are within the Countering Terrorist Travel Section and focus on programme management related to countering terrorist travel. Interns will be supervised by a staff member and can work in a hybrid or in-person arrangement.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience in programme management within the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism, specifically focusing on countering terrorist travel. The intern will support the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programme activities, contributing to the development and execution of initiatives aimed at addressing global security challenges. This role offers exposure to international cooperation, research, data analysis, and reporting within a UN framework. The purpose is to assist the team in achieving its mandate by providing dedicated support in project coordination, documentation, and stakeholder engagement, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of counter-terrorism efforts.
Responsibilities
Interns will assist in the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programme activities, including tracking progress and compiling updates. They will support the review of project documents, reports, and background materials, identifying gaps or issues for supervisor consideration. Responsibilities include contributing to the preparation of programme-related materials like timelines and summaries, and attending meetings to produce reports. Interns will also support the organization of meetings with regional actors and Member States, and facilitate internal coordination and communication. Additionally, they will conduct research, assist in data collection and analysis on relevant topics, monitor situations, and help maintain databases, fulfilling other assigned duties as required.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must be pursuing or have completed a relevant university degree. A field of study closely related to programme management and counter-terrorism is necessary.
