International expert to support the development of Guidance Factsheets for IMAP Common Indicators related to Ecological Objective 4 (Marine Food Webs) (Level B)
Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) supports Mediterranean countries in protecting the marine and coastal environment. This role supports the implementation of the Ecosystem Approach (EcAp) and the Integrated Monitoring and Assessment Programme (IMAP), specifically focusing on Ecological Objective 4 (EO4) concerning Marine Food Webs.
Job Purpose
This consultancy aims to advance the development of Ecological Objective 4 (EO4) on Marine Food Webs within the IMAP framework. The consultant will produce eight Guidance Factsheets for EO4 Common Indicators, draft a regional definition of Good Environmental Status (GES) for EO4, propose associated targets, and provide technical input for IMAP/EcAp governance discussions. This work is crucial for strengthening monitoring and assessment capacities, improving data quality, and ensuring reliable regional assessments for the Mediterranean Sea, contributing to the SEMPA Project and the IMAP/EcAp roadmap.
Responsibilities
Develop eight Guidance Factsheets for EO4 IMAP Candidate Common Indicators, adhering to the IMAP GFS template and employing a harmonized approach. Prepare draft regional definitions for Good Environmental Status (GES) for EO4 Candidate Common Indicators, along with associated GES targets. Manage the Online Working Group on Marine Food Webs, attend relevant virtual meetings, and prepare pre- and post-meeting documents, ensuring technical input is integrated. Revise the Guidance Factsheets to incorporate new GES elements and OWG recommendations. Support UNEP/MAP in preparing working documents and provide input for CORMON Biodiversity and Fisheries Meetings. Finalize the Guidance Factsheets after incorporating feedback from UNEP/MAP governance meetings.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in marine environmental assessment, indicator development, or ecosystem-based approaches is required. Demonstrated experience with marine food webs, ecosystem functioning, or biodiversity assessment is desirable. Experience with standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is also required.
