Senior Programme Management Assistant
Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority. This role is within the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD) in Montreal, Canada, under the Administration Division. The incumbent reports to the Head of the Administration Division and the Programme Management Officer, supporting the implementation of the Convention's objectives.
Job Purpose
This role provides comprehensive programme and project management assistance within the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD). The incumbent will support the monitoring, analysis, and reporting of programme and project activities, ensuring compliance with guidelines and objectives. Key functions include managing budgetary commitments, drafting various documents, and liaising with organizational units to facilitate smooth project implementation. The position also involves collaborating with colleagues on costing recommendations for CBD meetings and updating the Results-based Management (RBM) framework, contributing to effective planning and decision-making for sustainable development initiatives.
Responsibilities
Provide full programme and project management assistance, including research, data analysis, summarization, and presentation of information. Review and revise programme/project submissions for compliance and objectives, identifying and resolving issues. Establish and maintain monitoring systems through reporting and meetings. Monitor budgetary commitments, analyze financial trends, and make recommendations. Draft documents, reports, and correspondence. Oversee project implementation, address difficulties, and liaise with units to resolve administrative actions. Supervise office support staff, including work distribution, training, and performance input. Assist with data collection, analysis, presentations, and information material updates. Collaborate on costing recommendations for CBD meetings, improve costing templates, and prepare summary tables. Update and cost RBM framework inputs and formulations. Perform other related tasks as required.
Work Experience
A minimum of ten years of experience in sustainable development or environment-related programmes is required (eight years with a first university degree). Five years of experience in the UN Common System or similar international organization is desirable. Experience with ERP systems like Umoja and data analytics is also desirable.
