The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the UN's designated entity for environmental issues globally and regionally. UNEP's Ecosystems Division collaborates with partners to provide technical assistance and capacity development for environmental policy implementation, strengthening environmental management in developing countries. This role is within the UNEP – Cartagena Convention Secretariat in Kingston, Jamaica.
Job Purpose
This assignment aims to provide essential programmatic, administrative, and communication support to the Assessment and Management of Environmental Pollution (AMEP) Sub-Programme, with a specific focus on the Water Quality Capacity Development Project. The role involves dedicating half of the time to advancing communications initiatives for the project and the other half to supporting the AMEP sub-programme's management. The position is crucial for enhancing project visibility, ensuring effective communication, and contributing to the overall success of UNEP's environmental initiatives in the region. The role operates under the direct supervision of the AMEP Programme Management Officer.
Responsibilities
The Programme Management Assistant will support communications and outreach by developing and implementing initiatives for the Water Quality Capacity Development Project. This includes drafting, editing, and publishing digital content for websites and social media, creating visual content like infographics and videos, and designing promotional materials. The role also involves assisting in project planning, monitoring, and implementation by coordinating work plans, tracking progress, and monitoring project proposals, agreements, and budgets. Furthermore, the assistant will review project documents for compliance, manage knowledge products, and provide administrative support for meetings and office operations. This includes preparing background materials, drafting meeting summaries, and performing other assigned duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressive work experience in administration, programme, or project management is required. Proven experience in social media management and communications is highly desirable. Experience with international organizations, ERP systems, and environmental programmes in the Wider Caribbean Region is also desirable.
