Associate Programme Officer (Women Peace and Security (WPS))
Organizational Context
This position is based in Abidjan, Cote D’Ivoire, within the Programme Office of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Office for West and Central Africa. The role reports to the UNODC Regional Representative and is directly supervised by the Law Enforcement and Counter Terrorism officer, working closely with the PSP III project coordinator.
Job Purpose
The Associate Programme Officer will support UNODC's activities in Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and gender analysis, particularly for the Border Management, Law Enforcement and Emerging Crimes unit and the research unit in West and Central Africa. This involves integrating gender considerations into ongoing programmes and analytical work. The role will contribute to research, data collection, monitoring of socio-economic and political developments with a gender focus, programme assessments, stakeholder engagement, capacity building, and organizing training sessions. The incumbent will also assist in drafting reports, coordinating with partners, and preparing donor materials, ensuring WPS perspectives are promoted.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will provide input on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) and gender analysis within UNODC activities, focusing on border management, law enforcement, and emerging crimes, as well as research initiatives in West and Central Africa. Key duties include supporting survey and research activities, designing data collection tools, compiling responses, and conducting basic analysis. The role involves gathering and reviewing data on gender dynamics in border areas, monitoring socio-economic and political developments with a gender lens, and contributing to programme assessments and evaluations. Additionally, the position requires engaging with local stakeholders, supporting capacity-building in gender-sensitive data collection, organizing workshops, and drafting reports on gender dynamics. Coordination with UN/UNODC colleagues and partners to promote gender and WPS perspectives is also essential.
Work Experience
A minimum of two years of progressive experience in project/programme management or administration is required. Experience in security, criminal justice, data collection and analysis, and report writing is also necessary. Desirable experience includes technical assistance, capacity building, justice and security sector reform, and working with counterparts in Africa, particularly West and Central Africa, or with a gender context.
