Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority, setting the environmental agenda and promoting sustainable development within the UN system. This internship is within the Ecosystems Division, specifically the Regional Seas Branch (RSB), which coordinates 18 Regional Seas Conventions and Action Plans to address ocean degradation and link regional efforts with global processes.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the planning, research, production, and dissemination of communication and multimedia materials for the Regional Seas Programme (RSP). The role will enhance the visibility, knowledge sharing, and storytelling capabilities across the 18 Regional Seas Conventions and Action Plans. By contributing to technical and coordination needs, the intern will assist in the implementation of the Branch’s projects and programmes, ultimately strengthening the communication output and impact of the RSP in addressing marine and coastal ecosystem challenges.
Responsibilities
The intern will draft and produce various communication materials, including newsletters, website articles, social media content, briefs, talking points, and human-interest stories. Responsibilities also include developing and editing multimedia content such as photos, videos, infographics, and presentations to support communication efforts. The role involves supporting the planning and execution of communication campaigns and visibility initiatives for key events like global meetings and climate conferences. Additionally, the intern will assist in sharing communication products through digital platforms and media outlets, maintaining communication platforms with updated content, and performing other duties as requested to support the Branch's work.

No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, applicants must demonstrate relevant training, education, advanced coursework, or skills that benefit the UN. Experience in communication, digital content creation, or multimedia work, such as website writing, social media management, or contributing to publications, is beneficial.
