Organizational Context
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Bangkok, Thailand, is dedicated to protecting human rights globally. This internship role supports OHCHR's mission to empower individuals and assist authorities in upholding human rights. The intern will report to the Deputy Chief or Chief of the Myanmar Team.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide practical experience in human rights work within the UN Secretariat's Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The intern will contribute to OHCHR's mission by monitoring and analyzing human rights, political, and conflict developments in Myanmar. Key contributions include researching and drafting reports, preparing daily news updates on the regional human rights situation, supporting engagement with UN human rights mechanisms, and assisting in the organization of workshops and seminars. The role also involves maintaining information resources and participating in meetings, ultimately supporting the broader goal of protecting and promoting human rights for all.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) by monitoring and analyzing human rights, political, and conflict trends in Myanmar. Responsibilities include researching and drafting internal and external notes and reports, and preparing daily news updates on the regional human rights situation. The intern will also support engagement with UN human rights mechanisms, such as Special Procedures and Treaty Bodies. Additionally, duties involve assisting with the organization of workshops and seminars, maintaining and developing information and resource tools, and taking notes in meetings and conferences as requested by the supervisor.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this UN Internship Programme. However, a relevant field of study is essential. Applicants must be students in their final year of a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. program, or have already completed such a degree.
Skills
Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is advantageous. Desirable skills include the ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts, and the ability to design factsheets and surveys.
