Organizational Context
The Research Assistant position is within the Social Development Division of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), a regional commission of the United Nations. ECLAC contributes to the economic and social development of the region through policy design, monitoring, evaluation, advisory services, and support for international cooperation.
Job Purpose
The Research Assistant supports the Social Development Division by conducting research, collecting, and analyzing data on social and economic development programs and issues. This role involves data compilation, processing, and entry into databases, as well as assisting in the monitoring and evaluation of developments. The position contributes to the division's mission by preparing reports, presentations, and other materials to inform decision-making, knowledge management, and public awareness campaigns. The role also involves assisting with data visualizations and maintaining relevant information resources.
Responsibilities
The Research Assistant is responsible for researching, extracting, and compiling information and technical data on specific programs and topics. Duties include sorting, consolidating, and processing data for database entry, and monitoring developments by collecting and analyzing materials from various sources. The role involves assembling statistical data, adjusting reported data, and loading it into computerized systems. Responsibilities also include evaluating data sets for accuracy, maintaining databases, and preparing reports, presentations, tables, graphs, and charts. Additionally, the position involves preparing abstracts, reviewing and classifying data, assisting with data analysis and presentations, updating information materials, taking meeting notes, and disseminating UN and media information.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in collecting and researching data in social and economic development or a related field is required. This requirement is reduced to three years for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in social development analysis or data analytics is desirable.
