Organizational Context
The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) provides retirement, death, disability, and related benefits to over 150,000 participants and 80,000 beneficiaries across 190 countries. With offices in New York, Geneva, Nairobi, and Bangkok, UNJSPF-Pension Administration employs approximately 278 staff. This Benefits Assistant role is within the Operations Support Section of the Operations Coordination and Liaison Unit, reporting to the Chief of OCLU.
Job Purpose
The Benefits Assistant supports the planning, implementation, and processing of pension benefits within the Operations Coordination and Liaison Unit of the UNJSPF-Pension Administration. This role serves as a focal point for coordinating and expediting project activities, liaising with internal units and member organizations to manage administrative processes, and resolving implementation issues. The position involves establishing standard operating procedures for separation processes, participating in training, and auditing administrative actions for accuracy and completeness. The Benefits Assistant also researches and analyzes data for system enhancements, establishes automated follow-up measures, and prepares reports to ensure efficient processing of pension benefits and timely resolution of pending cases, contributing to the overall service delivery of the Operations Service.
Responsibilities
Provide assistance in planning and implementing operations support activities for the Operations Coordination and Liaison Unit to ensure smooth and rapid processing of pension benefits. Act as a focal point for coordinating, monitoring, and expediting project implementation, liaising with internal units and member organizations. Assist in establishing standard operating procedures for separation processes and participate in training activities. Audit administrative actions and analyze data for accuracy, consistency, and completeness, applying quality control checks. Research, compile, analyze, and present data for system enhancements and financial interfaces. Establish automated follow-up measures using business intelligence tools and maintain reports for tracking missing documents and pending cases. Prepare, maintain, and update files and databases, generating periodic and ad hoc reports. Assist with data collection, analysis, and preparation of presentations for information sharing and decision-making. Provide guidance and training to junior staff. Perform other assigned duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in program or project support, administration, or a related area is required. This requirement is reduced to five years for candidates with a first-level university degree or higher. Experience with ERP systems, business intelligence tools, data analysis using MS Excel, post-employment benefit schemes, and the UN Common System is desirable.
