Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the UN system's designated entity for global and regional environmental issues. The Latin America and the Caribbean Office (LACO) in Panama City supports 33 countries, coordinating initiatives under the LAC Forum of Ministers of Environment and integrating activities into UN Environment Assembly work programs.
Job Purpose
This internship supports the implementation of UNEP's programmes and projects within the Latin America and Caribbean region. The role contributes to intergovernmental cooperation on environmental issues, focusing on areas such as sustainable consumption, circular economy, chemicals and waste, air quality, and plastic pollution. Interns will assist in managing online platforms, organizing meetings and workshops, conducting research, and supporting project development, thereby contributing to UNEP's mandate of coordinating environmental policy consensus and addressing emerging environmental challenges.
Responsibilities
Support the follow-up and implementation of UNEP's workstreams and projects related to the Forum of Ministers of Environment, including intergovernmental networks, coalitions, and working groups. Assist in managing and updating online platforms with relevant information, resources, and activities. Help organize meetings, workshops, seminars, and webinars, including preparing agendas, background materials, and minutes. Conduct research, literature reviews, and analysis to draft documents and summaries on key environmental issues for the region. Support project development and implementation by gathering necessary information and data.
Work Experience
