ESG Research Intern
Organizational Context
The United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF) Office of Investment Management (OIM) in New York manages a global investment portfolio of approximately $100+ billion. This internship is within the Responsible Investment team, which manages the Fund's responsible investment activities and reports to an Investment Officer. The role supports public market investment teams and stewardship.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support public market investment teams and stewardship activities through high-quality ESG research and thematic analysis. The role contributes to well-informed investment decisions and effective corporate engagement by providing research inputs on financially material topics, climate transition, and biodiversity risks. The intern will gain practical experience in integrating ESG considerations into investment processes and engagement strategies, while contributing to the team's analytical and strategic objectives. The position is located in New York and can be hybrid or remote, with a duration of 2-6 months.
Responsibilities
Conduct company-specific ESG research on priority issuers to support investment due diligence, ongoing monitoring, and engagement preparation. Develop thematic ESG research on financially material topics, including sector-specific and geographic risks, regulatory developments, and emerging sustainability trends. Support analysis related to climate transition, physical risks, nature-related risks, and biodiversity risks, providing research inputs for the team’s ESG and investment strategy. Translate ESG insights into clear, decision-useful outputs for internal stakeholders, including investment teams and stewardship colleagues. Gain exposure to ESG integration in real-world investment processes and engagement strategies.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must be a student in the final year of a university degree program (bachelor's or equivalent), Master's, or Ph.D. program, or have completed such a program.
