Organizational Context
The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), Policy, Knowledge Management and Coordination Branch (PKMCB) in New York seeks an intern. PKMCB provides strategic counter-terrorism policy advice, supports intergovernmental processes, and fosters coordination within the UN system. This role contributes to UNOCT's policy leadership functions.
Job Purpose
This internship offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to the policy leadership functions of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT). The intern will support the Policy, Knowledge Management and Coordination Branch (PKMCB) in its mandate, which includes providing strategic counter-terrorism policy advice, coordinating reports for the Secretary-General, promoting coherence in counter-terrorism efforts, and strengthening partnerships with Member States and international organizations. The role involves assisting in the conceptualization, planning, and organization of key UNOCT policy events, contributing to the UN's global counter-terrorism strategy and efforts to prevent violent extremism.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the Policy, Knowledge Management and Coordination Branch (PKMCB) in various activities related to counter-terrorism and preventing violent extremism. Key duties include assisting in drafting and preparing background documents, reports, issue briefs, talking points, articles, and presentations. The intern will attend and summarize conferences and meetings, gather, select, and analyze information from diverse sources, and conduct research on relevant topics. Additional responsibilities involve assisting in data collection, developing and maintaining databases, and supporting the review of key reports and publications. The role also includes performing other related duties as required under the supervision of a staff member.
Work Experience
No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, applicants must be students in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s, or Ph.D. program, or have completed such a program. The intern's education, coursework, or skills should benefit the United Nations.
