Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority, setting the environmental agenda and promoting sustainable development. The Office of Science delivers integrated science to inform policy on environmental challenges. This internship is within the Data Analytics, Statistics and Intelligence Section (DASIS) in Nairobi, supporting the Section's mandate.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the Data Analytics, Statistics and Intelligence Section (DASIS) within UNEP's Office of Science. The intern will contribute to the collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of environmental and SDG data. The role involves assisting with metadata development, data collection for SDG indicators, reviewing publications, and supporting methodological research. Additionally, the intern will help organize meetings, manage project documentation, and contribute to communication and outreach materials, aligning with the Section's focus on providing authoritative scientific information and solutions for global environmental challenges.
Responsibilities
The intern will process and analyze environmental data and statistics, and support the development and preparation of metadata for environmental indicators. Responsibilities include assisting with data collection for SDG indicators under UNEP's custodianship and reviewing statistical publications. The role also involves supporting statistical methodological research and organizing meetings with internal and external partners. Furthermore, the intern will assist in creating project documentation repositories, publishing materials on UNEP's official websites, and developing communication and outreach materials. Other tasks as required by the office will also be undertaken.

No professional work experience is required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship's focus is necessary. Applicants must meet specific academic enrollment or recent graduation criteria.
Skills
Computer literacy in standard software applications. Demonstrated keen interest in the UN's work and commitment to its ideals. Ability to interact successfully with diverse cultural backgrounds, showing willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions. Fluency in spoken and written English is required; knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage.
