This Vehicle Technician role sits within the 3R Program of the Supply Chain Service, reporting to the Chief of the 3R Programme. The position supports the refurbishment of the UN-owned vehicle fleet.
Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to ensure the UN-owned fleet of vehicles is maintained and refurbished to Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) standards and industry best practices. The Vehicle Technician will perform comprehensive body repair and refinishing tasks, contributing to the operational readiness and safety of the fleet. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity and functionality of UN assets, ensuring they can effectively support peacekeeping and other critical missions. The work directly impacts the reliability and longevity of the vehicles used in diverse operational environments, upholding the UN's commitment to efficient resource management and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
Perform comprehensive vehicle body repairs, including removing, welding, re-installing, and aligning body panels, doors, hoods, and tailgates. Address minor body damage by pounding out dents, patching sheet metal, and removing rust. Replace damaged body parts such as bumpers, fenders, and trims, welding replacement parts securely. Prepare surfaces for painting by masking, filling, sanding, and grinding. Mix and apply paint according to specifications, using spray guns or brushes, and apply protective wax coatings. Remove and refit exterior and interior trim, seals, badges, and lamps, ensuring watertight seals where applicable. Repair and replace automotive glass, including windscreens and side/rear windows, and conduct basic water leak checks. Operate and maintain body shop equipment safely, including welders, grinders, sanders, and dent pullers. Maintain a clean and organized workspace, disposing of waste properly. Conduct post-repair inspections, verifying panel fit, alignment, finish quality, and trim refitting. Report any non-conformities for corrective action and ensure adherence to all safety procedures during repairs. Report executed services and assist in identifying required materials and parts.
Work Experience
A minimum of three years of professional experience in vehicle body repair and refinishing is required. This includes experience in dent removal, panel repair/replacement, alignment, surface preparation, and painting. Experience operating workshop/bodyshop equipment safely is also required. A valid Type B driving license is mandatory, and a Type C license is desirable.
