Mexico, a leading partner, is implementing the CCAC Super Pollutant Country Action Accelerator to strengthen institutional systems and mitigation models. This role supports Mexico's national climate commitments and sectoral policies.
Job Purpose
This role provides scientific and technical leadership to integrate SLCP mitigation into Mexico's national climate commitments, including NDC3.0 implementation plans and the National Climate Change Strategy. The Specialist ensures technical assistance projects are evidence-based, effective, and aligned with global best practices. The purpose is to strengthen Mexico's capacity to implement and scale impactful SLCP mitigation across key sectors, translating national priorities into actionable measures and leveraging the CCAC Scientific Advisory Panel for knowledge exchange and support. The role aims to enhance policy integration, deliver high-quality technical inputs, improve the design of technical assistance projects, and build national capacity for sustained SLCP mitigation efforts.
Responsibilities
Provide scientific and technical leadership to ensure SLCP mitigation (methane, black carbon, HFCs) is integrated into Mexico's national climate commitments, National Climate Change Strategy, and sectoral policies. Deliver rigorous, science-based inputs to government counterparts and stakeholders, translating national priorities into actionable measures. Ensure technical assistance projects are evidence-based, effective, and aligned with global best practices, strengthening Mexico's long-term capacity for SLCP mitigation. Engage with the CCAC Scientific Advisory Panel for knowledge sharing and support. Contribute to strengthening policy integration, delivering high-quality technical inputs, enhancing the design of technical assistance projects, and improving national capacity for SLCP mitigation and implementation.
Work Experience
Requires 4-7 years of experience in SLCP science, mitigation technologies, or climate mitigation, with a focus on methane, black carbon, or HFCs. Experience working on climate initiatives within government or international development partners, and familiarity with climate policy processes in Mexico or Latin America, are highly desired. Experience with GHG inventory systems, NDC processes, and international climate agreements is an asset.
Skills
Deep understanding of SLCPs (methane, black carbon, HFCs), including sources, mitigation technologies, and climate/air quality interactions. Excellent communication, presentation, analytical, and stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to translate scientific insights into policy briefs. Familiarity with climate change and air pollution issues in Mexico. Proficiency in Excel spreadsheets. Experience with national climate policies and frameworks (NDC, ENACC/PECC) is desired.
