CCAC Strategic Planning Officer for the Super Pollutants Accelerator in Mexico
Organizational Context
The Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC), hosted by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) in Paris, is a global initiative focused on integrated climate and air quality solutions. Mexico, a leader in super pollutant mitigation, is participating in the CCAC Super Pollutant Country Action Accelerator to enhance its commitments. This role supports that initiative.
Job Purpose
The Strategic Planning Officer will support Mexico's acceleration of super pollutant commitments by strengthening institutional systems and deploying integrated mitigation models. This role is crucial for consolidating air quality, climate, and super-pollutant data into a unified national planning framework. The officer will ensure project data, policy scenarios, and co-benefit assessments inform strategic decision-making and long-term planning, working collaboratively with technical specialists and government bodies to integrate SLCP mitigation into national policies and plans, thereby enhancing Mexico's climate and air quality goals.
Responsibilities
Track and coordinate progress across air quality, climate, and super-pollutant mitigation projects within Mexico's Super Pollutant Country Action Accelerator. Consolidate key data, including air pollution and SLCP information, into a unified, evidence-based national planning framework, potentially using tools like LEAP-IBC. Ensure project-level data, policy scenarios, and co-benefit assessments are systematically incorporated into strategic decision-making and long-term planning instruments. Support the integration of SLCP mitigation into national planning instruments, such as NDC implementation plans and sectoral strategies. Develop analytical notes and scenario packages to inform national mitigation strategies. Prepare technical reports, stakeholder engagement materials, and capacity-building content for relevant government institutions.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years of experience in energy-climate-air quality modeling is required, with preference for hands-on expertise in tools like LEAP, LEAP-IBC, or GAINS. Strong data management, visualization, and scenario analysis skills are essential. Experience with Mexico's energy, transport, waste, and industrial sectors, and its climate governance architecture, is highly desired. Experience working with government or international development partners in the environmental/climate sector is also preferred.
