CCAC Interinstitutional coordinator for the Super Pollutants Accelerator in Mexico
Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) hosts the Secretariat for the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC). This role supports the Government of Mexico's Super Pollutant Country Action Accelerator, focusing on integrated climate and air quality solutions. The coordinator will facilitate collaboration across ministries and stakeholders to advance Mexico's ambitious super pollutant reduction targets.
Job Purpose
The CCAC Interinstitutional Coordinator will support Mexico's Super Pollutant Country Action Accelerator by ensuring effective coordination and participation of all relevant actors and authorities engaged in super pollutant agenda goals, climate mitigation, and air quality objectives. This role is crucial for fostering coherence, effective information flow, and strategic alignment across key super pollutant sectors. The coordinator will facilitate collaboration among line ministries, sectoral ministries, and other stakeholders, including through a national interministerial mechanism. Additionally, the incumbent will engage with CCAC Hubs to enhance national action and promote cross-sectoral integration, thereby accelerating the implementation of Mexico's super pollutant commitments and strengthening institutional systems for scalable mitigation models.
Responsibilities
Facilitate collaboration across relevant line and sectoral ministries, including coordinating a national interministerial mechanism, and engaging with other key stakeholders. Enhance national action and cross-sectoral integration by engaging with CCAC Hubs. Ensure coherence, effective information flow, and strategic alignment across key super pollutant sectors. Support the Government of Mexico in coordinating and ensuring the participation of all competent actors and authorities engaged in super pollutant agenda goals, climate mitigation, and air quality objectives. Develop and implement multisectoral strategies, scalable mitigation projects, and institutional strengthening initiatives. Produce regular activity reports, progress reports, and a yearly workplan, tracking progress against key performance indicators related to the inter-ministerial coordination mechanism.
Work Experience
Requires 6-8 years of experience in public policy and governmental coordination, preferably in environment, climate, or sustainable development. A strong understanding of Mexico's environmental institutions and policies, as well as short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs), climate change, and air pollution issues in Mexico, is essential. Experience with multi-stakeholder platforms is also required.
