Job Purpose
The CCAC Senior Coordinator for the Super Pollutants Accelerator in Mexico will provide crucial support to the Mexican government in effectively implementing and overseeing the 'Accelerator' program. This role is instrumental in strengthening institutional systems and deploying scalable mitigation models for priority sectors, aiming to accelerate Mexico's super pollutant commitments. The coordinator will ensure coherent, science-informed national engagement in international forums, provide strategic guidance to government officials on mitigation actions, and oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of strategies. This position is key to synchronizing team actions, building capacity, and integrating super pollutant considerations into national policies and budgets, contributing significantly to Mexico's climate and air quality goals.
Responsibilities
The Senior Coordinator will support the government of Mexico in the effective implementation and oversight of the CCAC Super Pollutant Country Action Accelerator program. This includes contributing to engagement activities led by SEMARNAT and ensuring high-level national engagement in regional and international environmental forums. The role involves providing strategic guidance and technical support to government officials on super-pollutant mitigation actions. Key duties include overseeing the development, implementation, and monitoring of mitigation strategies and plans, coordinating the super pollutant team to synchronize actions, building capacity, and integrating super pollutants into policies and budgets. The coordinator will also be responsible for developing and operationalizing the engagement strategy, preparing progress reports, and ensuring alignment between national priorities and international commitments.
Work Experience
Requires 8-10 years of experience in public policy and intergovernmental relations within environmental or climate diplomacy, preferably in government or international organizations. Experience supporting high-level government decision-makers, understanding Mexico's environmental legal framework, and knowledge of national climate change mitigation policies are essential. Experience with short-lived climate pollutants and climate change issues in Mexico is also required.
Skills
Strong leadership, diplomacy, and strategic planning skills are highly desired. Excellent communication, negotiation, and facilitation skills are required. Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams. Knowledge of Mexico's environmental legal framework and multilateral agreements. Understanding of national climate change mitigation policies and short-lived climate pollutants.
