The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority, setting the environmental agenda and promoting sustainable development within the UN system. The Climate Change Division focuses on strategic guidance and action for climate stability, supporting countries in mitigation and adaptation efforts through capacity building, finance, and technology access. This role is within the Sustainable Investments Unit in Paris.
Job Purpose
This role provides crucial coordination support to UNEP's Sustainable Investments Unit, focusing on the Digital Demand Driven Electricity Networks Initiative (3DEN). The purpose is to accelerate investments in climate mitigation and resilient development by supporting the modernization of power systems in emerging economies through digital technologies. The role contributes to improving energy system efficiency, reliability, and sustainability by facilitating project implementation, stakeholder engagement, and the development of a dedicated finance facility. It also involves managing a knowledge platform and supporting global outreach to inform policy and scale impact, ultimately helping countries achieve Paris Agreement goals.
Responsibilities
The Programme Management Associate will coordinate and monitor project activities, ensuring compliance with UNEP standards and conducting partner due diligence. Key duties include engaging with partners and stakeholders, managing donor relations and reporting, and supporting communications, event management, and outreach for pilot projects. The role involves tracking budgets and financial reporting, developing new project concepts and proposals, and supporting fundraising efforts. Additionally, the associate will collect and analyze data, assist in hiring processes, and manage partner registrations in the UNEP portal. This includes supporting the implementation and scaling of the 3DEN initiative, developing a finance facility, and maintaining a knowledge management platform for lessons learned and best practices.
Work Experience
Prior experience in project management and coordination support for climate finance and mitigation-related activities is considered an asset. Experience working with UN agencies, particularly on climate change and finance, is desirable.
