Organizational Context
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority, setting the environmental agenda and promoting sustainable development. The Climate Change Division focuses on accelerating climate stability through strategic guidance and high-impact action. This role is within the Sustainable Investments Unit in Paris, supporting the Digital Demand Driven Electricity Networks Initiative (3DEN).
Job Purpose
This consultancy role supports the implementation and scaling of the Digital Demand Driven Electricity Networks Initiative (3DEN), a collaborative effort by UNEP, IEA, and the Italian Ministry of Environment. The purpose is to contribute to programme coordination, stakeholder engagement, and project activity delivery across participating countries. The role will also support the dissemination of lessons learned, best practices, and data generated from pilot projects to inform policy and scale impact. Additionally, it involves public outreach, communications, and community engagement, working closely with the Unit’s Communications Specialist. The work directly contributes to UNEP’s Climate Stability Outcome by enhancing countries' capacity, finance, and access to technologies for achieving Paris Agreement goals.
Responsibilities
The Programme Management and Communications Assistant will provide crucial support to the 3DEN initiative. Key responsibilities include partner and stakeholder engagement, managing communication and relationships, and supporting donor engagement through material preparation and reporting. The role involves developing and engaging the 3DEN Community, including its matchmaking and knowledge management platform. Daily activities include supporting new project concept development, proposal drafting, fundraising, donor mapping, data collection, analysis, and reporting. The assistant will also aid the Unit Head in hiring processes, such as coordinating interviews and onboarding new personnel. Furthermore, the role entails managing the 3DEN LinkedIn page, fostering community growth, and producing monthly communications reports. Online community building, stakeholder identification, newsletter distribution, and general communications support to the Branch Communications Specialist are also key duties, alongside identifying strategic engagement opportunities.
Work Experience
Prior experience working with UN agencies, particularly focusing on climate change and finance, is desirable. Demonstrates proactivity and effective communication skills, both written and oral.
