Organizational Context

Job Purpose
This role serves as a Communications Assistant within the Africa Hall Visitors Centre at UNECA. The primary purpose is to act as a welcoming ambassador, providing accurate information and conducting engaging in-person and virtual tours for diverse visitor groups. The position involves answering visitor inquiries, staying updated on relevant information, and assisting with marketing and communications projects for the Visitors Centre. Key contributions include enhancing visitor experience, supporting promotional activities, ensuring visitor safety, and contributing to data analysis and reporting for knowledge management and decision-making.
Responsibilities
Greet and receive visitors to the campus, serving as an ambassador for the Africa Hall Visitors Centre. Conduct informative in-person and virtual tours, providing accurate information and directions to various visitor groups. Respond to visitor questions in an energetic, personable, and friendly manner, ensuring information is relayed accurately. Assist with marketing and communications projects for the Visitors Centre by preparing and updating informational materials and coordinating content. Support promotional activities to engage and inform visitors. Maintain vigilance regarding visitor safety and actions. Assist in collecting and analyzing data, preparing presentations and reports for information sharing, query response, knowledge management, planning, and decision-making. Help with visualizations and updating information materials like web pages or brochures. Perform other assigned duties.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in a related field such as tour guiding, communication, journalism, public information, marketing, or tourism and hospitality is required. This requirement is reduced to three years for candidates holding a first-level university degree or higher.
