The Data Analytics, Statistics and Intelligence Section supports environmental decision-making through data, analysis, and insights.

Job Purpose

This internship within UNEP's Data Analytics, Statistics and Intelligence Section in Nairobi, Kenya, aims to support ongoing work in data analytics and digital tools, contributing to a foresight platform and analytical workflows. The intern will assist with data management, analysis, visualization, and research on AI trends and tools. This role provides an opportunity to gain practical experience in environmental data science and contribute to informing policy and action on global environmental challenges, aligning with UNEP's mission to guide sustainable development.

Responsibilities

The intern will support the Data Analytics, Statistics and Intelligence Section by assisting with data management and structured analysis using tools like Python. Responsibilities include developing and improving data visualizations and dashboards, organizing and integrating datasets for analytical use, and supporting the testing and refinement of platform features. The role also involves conducting research on emerging AI trends, tools, and best practices relevant to foresight, as well as exploring AI-enabled approaches for trend and text analysis. Additionally, the intern will research data sources, analytical methods, and emerging technologies, document data processes and workflows, and assist in preparing technical inputs for reports and presentations.

Work Experience

Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is essential. Knowledge of data science analysis tools like Python is required, along with an understanding of basic data analytics and statistics concepts. Familiarity with artificial intelligence or machine learning concepts is desirable.
