Political Affairs Intern
Organizational Context
This internship is with the Gender Unit of the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) and Peace Operations (DPO) at United Nations Headquarters in New York. The role supports the Gender Unit's work on women, peace, and security, contributing to the UN's broader peace and security objectives.
Job Purpose
The Political Affairs Intern will support the Gender Unit of DPPA and DPO by conducting research on critical issues related to women, peace, and security. This includes analyzing gender equality, conflict analysis, women's political participation, and the integration of gender perspectives in UN processes. The intern will assist in preparing meeting summaries, providing logistical support for events, and contributing to project planning and evaluation. The role also involves data analysis, knowledge management, and supporting communication strategies to advance the Women, Peace, and Security agenda.
Responsibilities
Conduct research on women, peace, and security issues, including gender equality, conflict analysis, political participation, mediation, and protection of civilians. Assist in preparing summary notes for meetings, conferences, and seminars. Provide logistical support for organizing events, workshops, and trainings. Support project planning, evaluation, and the preparation of briefing materials. Collate and analyze data for knowledge management on women, peace, and security. Assist in planning and organizing training initiatives and developing learning products. Draft and prepare internal and official documents. Contribute to the implementation of the WPS communications strategy and develop content for strategic communication products.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a strong academic background in a relevant field and familiarity with standard software applications like MS Word and MS PowerPoint are expected.
