Organizational Context
The Office of the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon (UNSCOL) in Beirut seeks an intern for its Political Unit. Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide a learning experience within the Political Unit of the Office of the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon (UNSCOL). The intern will support the unit's mandate by conducting research on regional issues, assisting in the drafting of reports and fact sheets, monitoring media, and contributing to event organization. The role is designed to offer practical exposure to political affairs within a UN context, allowing the intern to develop research, analytical, and communication skills while contributing to UNSCOL's operational objectives. The internship duration is typically three months, with potential for extension up to six months, and requires full-time commitment.
Responsibilities
The intern will support the Political Unit's activities by conducting research and compiling information on issues relevant to Lebanon and the Middle East. Key duties include assisting in drafting geographical and thematic fact sheets, preparing daily incident reports, and maintaining data on security trends. The intern will also help compile presentations and other documents, monitor local, regional, and international media, and support the preparation and organization of events. Additionally, the role involves attending conferences as an observer, translating documents between Arabic and English, and assisting with archiving and administrative functions as required.

Skills
Fluency in English and Arabic (oral and written) is required. Computer literacy in standard software applications and basic database management skills are necessary. Internet communication, searching, and social media skills are also essential. The ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs is important. Knowledge of French is considered an asset.
