Organizational Context
The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) within the UN Secretariat focuses on bridging the digital divide and accelerating digital transformation in the Asia-Pacific region. The ICT and Development Section (IDS) promotes regional digital connectivity, innovative technologies, and strategic data use through research, capacity building, advisory services, and policy dialogues.
Job Purpose
This internship within the ICT and Development Section (IDS) of ESCAP aims to support the Section's mission of bridging the digital divide and fostering digital transformation across the Asia-Pacific. The intern will contribute to evidence-based analytical research, assist in capacity-building programs, provide regional advisory services, and facilitate intergovernmental policy dialogues. The role involves supporting research on ICT and digital agendas for sustainable development, contributing to publications, and analyzing socio-economic data related to ICT development, particularly for Countries with Special Situations. The intern will also assist in project implementation, website maintenance, and event coordination, gaining practical experience in international development and digital policy.
Responsibilities
Assist with research on ICT and digital agendas for sustainable development, contributing to publications like the Asia-Pacific Digital Transformation Report. Compile and process socio-economic data related to ICT development, focusing on Countries with Special Situations, potentially using econometric skills. Support officers in implementing regional projects to enhance digital infrastructure and data usage. Maintain and promote Section activities on the ESCAP website for visibility. Provide logistical and substantive support for intergovernmental meetings and regional workshops, including drafting documents and coordinating participants. Perform other substantive and administrative duties as assigned by leadership.
Work Experience
Significant work experience is not required for this internship. However, candidates are recommended to have knowledge of standard ICT software applications and demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations.
