Organizational Context
The United Nations Secretariat's Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) provides technical secretariat services for intergovernmental bodies. This internship is within the General Assembly Affairs Branch of the General Assembly and ECOSOC Affairs Division, supporting its operations at UN Headquarters in New York.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to provide motivated individuals with practical experience supporting the General Assembly Affairs Branch. Interns will assist in intergovernmental research, data science, computer science, intergovernmental services, and project management tasks. The role contributes to the effective functioning of intergovernmental bodies by supporting research, data management, meeting preparation, and logistical assistance, thereby enhancing the technical secretariat's capabilities and the overall efficiency of UN intergovernmental processes.
Responsibilities
Conduct research on intergovernmental procedures and practices of the General Assembly and ECOSOC. Track intergovernmental activity and maintain related data sets. Support the development of procedure data models and integrate reporting tools. Assist in preparing procedural scripts and other meeting-related tasks. Attend and summarize meeting discussions. Provide logistical support during meetings, including managing interactive presentations and speaker lists. Contribute to preparing talking points and briefing materials. Manage internal databases, participating in user acceptance, quality assurance, and change management. Support issue management processes and prepare correspondence. Assist in formulating project strategies and policies. Prepare and facilitate meetings with internal stakeholders.
Work Experience
No prior working experience is required for this internship. However, relevant training, education, advanced coursework, or skills that benefit the United Nations are beneficial. Familiarity with computer programming, database management, data modeling, data mining, or statistical analysis is desirable.
