Organizational Context
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the UN system's focal point for coordinating disaster reduction efforts. The Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia (ROECA) in Brussels focuses on implementing the Sendai Framework and advancing risk knowledge and financing for disaster risk reduction. This internship supports the UNDRR Strategic Framework (2026-2030).
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support the UNDRR Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia in Brussels by contributing to the administration and development of work related to risk knowledge and disaster risk reduction financing. The intern will assist in creating knowledge products, managing data, organizing events, developing risk maps, and supporting advocacy and communication efforts. The role also involves exploring innovative DRR tools and contributing to initiatives like 'Early Warning for All' and monitoring the Sendai Framework implementation, thereby enhancing the office's capacity to reduce disaster risks and build resilience.
Responsibilities
Support the development of knowledge products, including reports, policy briefs, and presentations for diverse audiences. Assist in data management and analysis to inform decision-making. Help organize trainings, webinars, and seminars to enhance capacity building. Contribute to the creation of risk maps for specific countries as required. Develop evidence-based advocacy and communication materials focused on disaster risk reduction financing and MSME resilience. Research and explore innovative tools and solutions for disaster risk reduction. Support activities related to the 'Early Warning for All' initiative. Assist in monitoring the progress of the Sendai Framework implementation.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, a field of study closely related to the internship's focus is essential. Familiarity with standard software applications, including MS Word, PowerPoint, and Teams, is expected. Experience in drafting news articles, social media posts, or designing surveys and polls is desirable.
