Job Purpose
This Civil Engineer (Technical Support) role is crucial for the successful implementation of the "Urban Qualification in a Key Neighborhood of Belo Horizonte" project. The purpose is to provide essential technical advice and support for project activities, ensuring that the development of community infrastructure and affordable housing in the Izidora area aligns with UN-Habitat's mandate for sustainable, resilient, and inclusive urban development. The role contributes to transforming a vulnerable area into a model of sustainability and resilience, applying principles of the New Urban Agenda and Sustainable Development Goals.
Responsibilities
The Civil Engineer (Technical Support) will provide technical advice and support for project activities, including evaluating slope stabilization, retaining structures, and drainage projects. Responsibilities include managerial support for the project's work program, coordinating development, approval, and implementation of activities. The role requires maintaining communication with local partners and counterparts, performing technical and administrative tasks to ensure project objectives are met regarding deadlines, budget, and quality. This includes providing support in areas such as capacity building, data management, public policies, project planning and implementation, social mobilization, and advocacy. The engineer will also identify and mitigate project risks, participate in meetings and field visits, document project activities, and prepare various reports.
Work Experience
A minimum of six years of progressively responsible engineering experience in urban-related themes within Brazil is required. Specific experience in drainage or slope containment projects, including nature-based solutions, and sustainable urbanization for informal settlements is necessary. Experience in project/programme management, social housing policies, earthmoving, geometric and pavement projects, and urban infrastructure project budgeting are desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, and web search engines. Familiarity with technological tools, software, and online platforms. Knowledge of project management methodologies. Professionalism, strong planning and organization, effective communication, and teamwork skills are essential. Ability to work in multicultural environments and manage conflict is also important.
