Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable towns and cities globally, acting as the UN system's focal point for urbanization. The Global Knowledge and Advocacy Division (GKAD) strengthens UN-Habitat's role as a thought leader and advocate for sustainable urban development, supporting the New Urban Agenda and SDGs. This internship is within GKAD, contributing to stakeholder engagement for the World Urban Forum (WUF).
Job Purpose
This internship within UN-Habitat's Global Knowledge and Advocacy Division (GKAD) aims to support stakeholder mobilization and engagement for the upcoming World Urban Forum (WUF 13) and preparations for WUF 14. The role will contribute to systematizing and strengthening stakeholder engagement, advocacy, campaign management, and database management. Interns will assist GKAD in its coordination functions related to the implementation of the UN-Habitat Strategic Plan 2026-2029, focusing on enhancing global knowledge, advocacy, and partnerships for sustainable urban development and adequate housing. The position offers practical experience in data management, analysis, and advocacy within a key UN program.
Responsibilities
The intern will support data management and analysis, and advocacy duties under the guidance of the Head of Advocacy and Stakeholders Unit. Key responsibilities include maintaining and updating the stakeholder database, ensuring data accuracy and integrity through cleaning and consolidation, and conducting regular data quality checks. The role involves preparing analysis-ready datasets, supporting the generation of summary statistics, and developing analytical outputs using tools like Excel, Canva, or PowerBI. Additionally, the intern will assist in developing advocacy materials such as articles, blog posts, and social media content, and collaborate on creating visually engaging content. Support will also be provided for planning and executing advocacy events and campaigns, and for coordinating Subprogramme 4 of the UN-Habitat Strategic Plan, including maintaining its monitoring database and assisting in report drafting.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data management and analysis, including experience with formulas, filtering, and pivot tables. Experience in data cleaning, consolidation, and managing large datasets, including handling duplicate or inconsistent entries, is also required. A field of study closely related to the internship's focus is necessary.
