The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development and policies for adequate housing. It supports governments and partners in implementing the Habitat Agenda, 2030 Agenda, and New Urban Agenda. UN-Habitat works to transform cities into safer, more inclusive, and resilient places. The Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with a focus on developing activities within the host country.
Job Purpose
This Junior Graphic Designer role supports UN-Habitat's project "Sustainable and inclusive urban prosperity in the State of Alagoas" by ensuring the effective execution of the work program through strong visual communication. The purpose is to enhance the State of Alagoas' engagement towards sustainable and inclusive urban prosperity by improving the understanding of the urban setting and the establishment of public policies. The role contributes to UN-Habitat's mandate by visually communicating project objectives, progress, and outcomes to various stakeholders, thereby supporting the transformation of cities into better places for all. The position is based in Maceió, Brazil, for an expected duration of six months.
Responsibilities
The Junior Graphic Designer will support UN-Habitat Brazil's local communications and core teams. Key responsibilities include designing and producing visual identities for initiatives, projects, campaigns, and events, adhering to UN-Habitat's branding guidelines. This involves designing and laying out publications, reports, and other editorial products. The role also entails creating graphic materials for digital platforms, such as social media cards, short videos, animations, and infographics. Additionally, the designer will support short video production and editing, including subtitling and simple motion graphics, and design informative communication products like booklets, brochures, banners, and backgrounders. The position requires maintaining an organized archive of design files and ensuring all outputs align with UN-Habitat's corporate identity and visual standards.
Work Experience
At least three years of progressively responsible graphic design experience in Brazil is required. Previous experience in communications within Alagoas, with graphic design for development or non-profit projects, and in producing social media content are desirable. Familiarity with urban issues and the UN System or other international agencies is also beneficial.
Skills
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) and Canva is required. Strong understanding of social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube) and their dynamics for graphic design application is necessary. Good computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Teams, and Google Workspace are essential. Photography and video editing skills are desirable.
