Organizational Context
This position is within the Communications and Public Mobilization Section, External Outreach Service of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Geneva, Switzerland. The incumbent reports to the Head of the Web Unit, contributing to the OHCHR's online presence and outreach efforts.
Job Purpose
The Web Assistant is responsible for managing and maintaining the OHCHR.org website, acting as a primary point of contact for web-related inquiries and providing helpdesk services. This role involves creating, updating, and deleting web content, ensuring information quality, and resolving web content errors. The assistant will monitor website validity, manage content in English and Spanish, and coordinate translations. Additionally, the role supports the development and administration of OHCHR websites, including designing pages using Drupal, HTML/CSS, and other web tools, performing user acceptance testing, and documenting technical issues. The Web Assistant also contributes to user training on web publishing best practices.
Responsibilities
Manage and maintain the OHCHR.org website, serving as the primary contact for web helpdesk services. Create, update, and delete web content, ensuring information quality and resolving errors. Monitor website content, including UN Human Rights mechanisms, operations, and organizational information. Ensure the validity of internal and external links, copyrights, and adherence to web guidelines. Assist with posting and maintaining English web content and act as the focal point for the Spanish version of the website. Coordinate translations of web content using AGT and MemoQ. Develop and maintain technical web expertise, designing and customizing web pages using Drupal CMS, HTML/CSS, and multimedia tools. Assist with User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for website features and improvements. Document and report technical issues to the web development vendor. Prepare documentation and procedures for website management and publishing. Stay updated on web and IT developments. Provide guidance and training to web content contributors on publishing best practices.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant experience in web design and information management is required. This is reduced to three years for candidates with a first-level university degree. Experience with Drupal CMS, web authoring tools, graphics/multimedia software, and CAT tools like MemoQ is desirable.
Skills
Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Understanding of web accessibility and usability principles. Knowledge of SEO techniques. Ability to research information. Familiarity with media platforms and digital asset management systems. Skills in web maintenance, design, and development. Planning and organizing abilities. Technological awareness and willingness to learn new technologies.
