UNRWA operates extensive services including education and healthcare, employing over 30,000 staff, making it the largest UN operation in the region. This role reports to the Senior Staff Nurse.
Job Purpose
The Midwife provides comprehensive maternal health care services, encompassing pre-conception, antenatal, and post-natal care, family planning, and mental health support. The role involves performing IUD insertions and follow-ups, participating in health activities within a Family Health Team Approach, and ensuring adherence to technical instructions. A key aspect is maintaining high standards of infection control, proper medical waste management, and a safe work environment. The incumbent will also contribute to training activities, manage electronic medical records, ensure accurate data entry and reporting, maintain supply records, and conduct follow-ups, including home visits for defaulting patients. The position requires performing other assigned duties by the supervisor, contributing to the overall health and well-being of the refugee community.
Responsibilities
The Midwife is responsible for delivering comprehensive maternal health care, including pre-conception, antenatal, and post-natal services, family planning, and mental health support. This includes performing IUD insertions and follow-up checks according to regulations. The role involves participating in cross-cutting issues like GBV and disability within the Family Health Team Approach. Maintaining stringent infection control, managing medical waste, and ensuring a safe work environment are critical. The incumbent will also facilitate training, manage electronic health records with accurate data entry and reporting, and maintain inventory of medical supplies. Patient follow-up, including home visits for defaulting patients, is also a key duty, alongside performing other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Work Experience
Requires a minimum of 3 years of progressive, relevant work experience in maternal and child health care and/or maternity units/hospitals. Proficiency in computer use and understanding of its application in health is also necessary.
