Job Purpose
This internship within the UN-Habitat's Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA) Secretariat in Bonn, Germany, aims to provide a practical learning experience in communications and outreach for sustainable urban development. The intern will contribute to GWOPA's mission by developing engaging multimedia content, drafting public information materials, and supporting outreach activities. This role offers exposure to critical issues in water and sanitation, capacity development, and international partnerships, particularly in low-income urban settings. The intern will work on a tailored plan, reporting to a professional staff member, and contribute to the overall work program of GWOPA, fostering their understanding of global urbanization challenges and solutions.
Responsibilities
The intern will focus on conceptualizing and creating engaging multimedia content, including videos, podcasts, infographics, flyers, and brochures. Responsibilities include drafting and editing content for public information materials such as social media posts, newsletters, and web stories. The intern will also assist in preparing and implementing GWOPA outreach activities and workshops. Additionally, they will support knowledge development, documentation, and management of UN-Habitat's Urban Basic Services Communities of Practice. Content management for the GWOPA website and other digital tools, along with online community support and platform transfer, are also key duties. The intern may undertake other assignments as required, aligned with their interests and experience, contributing to GWOPA's work program.
Work Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study closely related to the internship is required. Applicants must meet specific academic enrollment or graduation criteria. Experience with social media platforms, content management systems, design software, and video/audio editing tools is desirable but not mandatory.
Skills
Excellent communication skills, ability to work independently and collaboratively, proven team-working ability, computer literacy in standard software (Microsoft Office Suite). Desirable skills include knowledge of social media platforms and content management systems, creative visual storytelling, design software (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop), Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, Teams, Excel, Power BI, video/audio editing software, and interest in augmented reality platforms.
