Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development globally. The Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA), led by UN-Habitat, supports water and sanitation operators worldwide through peer-to-peer partnerships. This internship is hosted by the Government of Germany within the GWOPA Secretariat, offering a dynamic learning environment.
Job Purpose
This internship aims to support GWOPA's membership campaign and the operationalization of its governance framework. The intern will gain practical experience in international cooperation, capacity development, and the management of a global alliance focused on improving water and sanitation services. The role contributes to GWOPA's mission of scaling up Water Operator's Partnerships (WOPs) to enhance service delivery and achieve Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in low-income urban settings. The intern will work on current issues facing water and sanitation operators globally, exploring linkages between capacity development, partnerships, and service improvements.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include assisting with GWOPA's membership campaign by vetting applications, processing new members, and managing the membership database. This involves mapping membership gaps, identifying potential new members, and conducting outreach. The intern will also draft and review communications and advocacy materials, and develop surveys to gather member feedback. Additionally, the role involves supporting the operationalization of GWOPA's governance framework by liaising with utilities associations, following up on agreements, and drafting guidance materials. Contributions to governance-related communications and the management of Steering Committee and General Assembly activities, including electronic voting, are also expected. Other duties may include preparing concept papers, data management, research, and assisting with communication and event management.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must be students in the final year of a university degree program (Bachelor's or equivalent) or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD. A field of study closely related to the internship's focus is required.
