Intern - Data and Sanitation
Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development globally. The Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA), led by UN-Habitat, supports water and sanitation operators worldwide through peer partnerships to enhance service delivery. The GWOPA Secretariat, hosted by Germany, implements strategies and programs to scale up these partnerships and improve operator performance.
Job Purpose
This internship offers a dynamic learning environment within the GWOPA Secretariat, focusing on current global water and sanitation challenges. The role will explore the interconnections between capacity development, partnerships, and service improvements, particularly in low-income urban areas. The intern will contribute to GWOPA's mission by supporting project planning, knowledge management, event preparation, and data analysis related to Water Operator's Partnerships (WOPs), ultimately aiding in the enhancement of water and sanitation services for more people and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals.
Responsibilities
The intern will support GWOPA's thematic and operational areas, contributing to project planning, implementation, and reporting. Key duties include knowledge development, documentation, and managing communities of practice. The role involves assisting in the preparation of global outreach and learning events, and updating the GWOPA Data Portal with monitoring information on WOPs, including WOPs Observatory and profiles. Additionally, the intern will support project budget and financial management, and assist in preparations for major GWOPA events. Specific tasks may involve drafting concept papers, developing project briefs for resource mobilization, conducting data management and analysis, researching water and sanitation topics, and assisting with communication and information management.
Work Experience
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study closely related to the internship's focus is necessary. Previous UN internship experience is not required but may be beneficial.
