Organizational Context
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development globally. The Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA), led by UN-Habitat, supports water and sanitation operators worldwide through peer partnerships to enhance service delivery. The GWOPA Secretariat, hosted by Germany, implements strategies and programs to scale up these partnerships and improve operator performance, contributing to SDG goals.
Job Purpose
This internship within the GWOPA Secretariat offers a dynamic learning environment focused on current global water and sanitation challenges. The role will explore the linkages between capacity development, partnerships, and service improvements, particularly in low-income urban settings. The intern will contribute to GWOPA's mandate by supporting project planning, implementation, knowledge management, event preparation, and data management, ultimately aiding in the scaling up of Water Operator Partnerships (WOPs) and enhancing the performance of water and sanitation service providers worldwide.
Responsibilities
The intern will support GWOPA's thematic and operational areas, focusing on project lifecycle management, including planning, implementation, and reporting. Key duties involve knowledge development, documentation, and managing communities of practice. The role includes assisting in the preparation of global outreach and learning events, and updating the GWOPA Data Portal with WOP monitoring data, including WOPs Observatory and profiles. Financial aspects such as project budget and financial management support are also required. Additionally, the intern will assist in event preparations for major gatherings like the GWOPA Assembly and World Urban Forum, and contribute to the development of concept papers, project briefs, and resource mobilization documents.
Work Experience
Professional work experience is not required for this internship. However, applicants must be pursuing or have completed a university degree in a field closely related to the internship's focus. A strong interest in the UN's work and demonstrated ability to interact across cultures are essential.
